If there has ever been a time to fuse exquisitely dark-vintage glamour and traditional white elegance, it is in this awe-inspiring styled photo shoot in The Library at The Warwick Melrose in Dallas. The photo shoot was shot by Jonathan Ivy Lifestyle Photography, styled by Lottie Fowler of Couture Events, culinary artistry was by Sugar Bee Sweets, and makeup was by Shannon Caldwell at Something You Makeup Artistry. With these four phenomenal talents, it is no wonder this photo shoot was executed with flawless elegance and creative precision.
The Library at the Warwick Melrose has a vintage aesthetic to it, a type of high-class environment that you envision when you read the pages of The Great Gatbsy or a place you can picture Grace Kelly in demurely sipping a glass of champagne while wearing a black knee-length Chanel dress.
Lottie Fowler of Couture Events thought of this concept and put together a team of extraordinary professionals to execute her vision. “It was about vintage glamour. The gold tones, the red lighting, the dark ambience, it has an old classy feel to it and was the perfect backdrop for the feel that we wanted,” said Fowler.
Weddings are synonymous with white, light pastel colors, but brides-to-be should not be afraid of incorporating a dark color palette. Dark colors provide a mysterious sense of beauty and can elevate the sense of drama to an aristocratic, old Hollywood feel. Along with mixing a dark, sultry color palette into bridal accessories, a bride should take into consideration the colors that will be used on her makeup. A bride's wedding day is one of the most active days for a woman’s face to always be on point. Accentuating the face with contour and highlight, along with illuminating the eye with a multitude of colorful shimmer palettes, cannot only elevate the bride’s esteem- but it can go along with the theme of the wedding. A high glamour wedding calls for an experienced makeup artist to pull out all the stops. Shannon Caldwell, of SomethingYou Makeup Artistry, did just that.
“The makeup was inspired by the dark and sensual concept of a bordello. I wanted her eyes to be super lush, exotic and smoky, but soft enough to let the dark velvet textures that are found in the Warwick not overcome her,” said Caldwell, “I used rich bold colors like navy and black on her eyes to pull out the golden tones found in the backdrop of the photo shoot.”
Love is amorous, passionate, tumultuous and immersing; the true deep red and olive tone of a bouquet of roses metaphorically highlights the meaning of true love. Playing with this concept, black silky runners were used to add an edgy modern flair to the traditional bridal bouquet.
“We fell in love with the flowers, they were sultry and sensual. Embedding the black runners were where the inspiration began for the photo shoot,” said Fowler.
The Texas Wedding Guide has a plethora of photography clients and they all mention the same thing: a photographer is meant to capture your character and emotion in a photo. The bride has options of bridal portraits, engagement photos and makeup headshots. With so much concentration on the bride, the groom is found only in wedding photos and since a wedding day is about the fusion between two souls, a groom’s personality should be showcased as well.
Shots of him doing his favorite things, like smoking a cigar, sipping on a glass of scotch, or playing with his favorite set of golf clubs, should be habits or hobbies of his present persona that should be captured.
The culinary artistry by Sugar Bee Sweets was divine and completely carried on the vision of a beautifully mysterious romance. By incorporating the miniature details of the silhouette, ivory, gold and dark red tones, the medium-sized cake follows through with the grand ambience of the room.
Weddings are meant to be unique and tailored to both the bride and grooms personality and lifestyle. It’s a celebration among friends and family that are supporting a union, so why not sprinkle every one’s character in it to make it unique and one-of-a-kind.
Conceptual designs may be difficult at times but if you just garner all of what you love and the little things that inspire you, a thematic wedding can be attained. Amalgamate you and your groom’s personality and modernize traditional wedding styles with vintage flairs of high glamour and opulence. After seeing this photo shoot, The Texas Wedding Guide expects nothing less.
