Guest Accommodations Wedding Pros

Two Things, One Favor for Your Guests

All of us look for shortcuts and would like one less thing to do or step to take. Here's a genius idea: Find a way to combine favors and name cards. Here are a few inspirations we found to get you started.

A New Way to Serve Food at Your Wedding Reception

This weekend, we stumbled upon this delightful idea {which includes "delish" at the end}. In fact, it might just be the coolest idea ever. Each table at this wedding reception featured a framed chalkboard with the name of a song on it. When the DJ played the song that corresponded to the assigned table, the guests got to get up and help themselves to food. The guests got to enjoy the music while waiting - perhaps a few even squeezed some dance moves in. There a several ways to play off this idea!

Friday Fun: Steps to Slim Down Your Vendor List

An engaged couple is faced with countless decisions when beginning to plan their wedding: What is the theme? What are the colors? What will the décor entail?  Which vendors are going to help us achieve the wedding of our dreams?

Solidifying the right vendors is one of the most important stepping stones to your wedding. If you’ve ever attended a bridal show, you know how overwhelming the sheer number choices for photographers, caterers, venues, wedding planners, bakers, designers, etc. can be. Here are some helpful hints from local expert and events and membership director, Jenna Heilman, of Cypress Club (The Reserve at Lake Travis), to assist you with your vendor selection.

Start with a reputable source

Use your resources, like Texas Wedding Guide, to compile a list of vendors that you are interested in. Don’t be afraid to ask for references; any reputable vendor will be happy to share some of their past clients with you. Then, narrow your list to no more than 3 vendors of each category. You will stress yourself out if you try to meet with every single vendor. More often than not, too many choices can be more damaging than too few.

Ask for a consultation

You need to interview your vendors, just like they need to interview you. Not every vendor is perfect for every bride. Bounce ideas off your vendors, tour the space to discuss the ceremony/reception options and ask for a personalized proposal. No two weddings are alike, so don’t settle for someone else’s template.

Not in Love with the Idea of a Dance Floor?

{Photo by Rachel Thurston / Via Marth Stewart Weddings}

If you decide to do away with the dance floor, or even if you keep it, but still want to have a fun activity for your guests, check out this mini golf course idea! The game offers a way for guests to learn more about the couple while providing entertainment and some friendly competition.

For this couple (who came up with the idea of mini golf), what started as a "Wouldn't it be cool if..." idea became a six-hole course, made by the father of the bride, that told the their story.

What are some of your "Wouldn't it be cool if..." ideas? We say, run with them - see what you can come up with and how to make them happen!

Thursday's Trend: Food Truck Wedding Receptions

{Photo by Chelsey Boatwright Photography}

With spring and summer right around the corner, we are falling head over heels with the idea of having a food truck reception for your wedding. Food trucks are the next hot trend, period. But, we also see them becoming the next big thing for wedding catering. While the prospect may be exciting, let's take a step back and give you a few things to keep in mind if this is your caterer of choice.

While you need to keep the season in mind, there are ways to work around that. During the warmer months, you can do it outdoors either picnic-style or with tables set up under a huge white tent (for shade) or, you can even do it during the colder months, depending on whether an indoor venue lets you use your own caterer. The food truck(s) can then be stationed by the curb.

Friday Fun: Wedding Programs Paper- and Reader-Friendly

Don't you catch yourself marveling at the fact that while simple with a spritz of edginess, this wedding program looses none of its sophistication and charm? At how there can be so much information crammed on one piece of paper, but it doesn't leave you feeling dizzy? We love it! It even cuts down on costs and saves a few trees, for those of you who are eco-conscious. You could even turn them into fans for an outdoor wedding, so your guests can use them to keep cool.

Our List of a Few Must-Haves at Your Wedding

Today, we decided to pool together a short list of what we thought were the must-have things you should have at your wedding. Here they are!

A comfy, love seat sofa to make things more cozy and intimate for the newlyweds.

Oh, and don't forget the "cool" kids table. Having a kid-sized table off to the side, laden with Crayons, games and other activities keeps the little ones entertained and less underfoot. Plan to pay one or two people to "oversee" the table. Or you can seat the parents near enough for them to keep an eye on them.

Glow sticks are always fun, for kids and adults alike, and always bring back a myriad of memories. The signage by these glow sticks in Mason jars is adorable.

For all those leftovers at the dessert bar you don't want to throw away or take home. Great little additional wedding favor for your guests. But, be sure your master of ceremonies makes your guests aware of that opportunity to take home goodies.
