As the special events coordinator for Truluck's Dallas, Rebecca Wright knows a good party when she sees one… or in her case, when she’s planning it. After 15 years in the biz and hundreds of rehearsal dinners and receptions in her repertoire, Wright has held on to a slew of innovative ideas for lasting memories.
While pulling off a fabulous rehearsal dinner isn’t necessary, it’s one of the best ways to bring your two families together, says Wright. "If you have the option of an intimate get-together, take advantage of this opportunity to blend both sides of the your new family," Wright explains. Her plan of action? "Hold a seating lottery!" she suggests, which is a fun (and covert) way to mix things up.
Guests draw a lotto number that directs them to their place setting at a table with fresh faces. Gracefully nudging members of each clan to engage in conversation is a simple and painless way for his Uncle George and your Grandma Gertrude to strike up a long-lasting friendship.
Another fun and interactive way to get guests involved is by incorporating a slide show or "story time" into the evening. With photos and charming anecdotes from both of your childhoods, everyone will feel an instant, personal connection. Offering a story time is a fantastic way for the families to laugh and share memories with each other," Wright adds.
Through an intimate rehearsal dinner, you will be taking the first steps in the right direction towards a tightly knit, well-blended family – even if it means digging up those old photos of you in ballerina tutus and bubble baths for a good laugh.
