With so much time, love and attention devoted to every detail of your wedding, you reserve the right to be choosy when it comes to selecting your photographer. After all, the person behind the lens is in charge of capturing every magical moment from your engagement session to your grand exit from the reception. And our expert, Stacey Pinkney from Simple Moments Photography, dishes on her approach to nailing down the perfect wedding photographer for you.
A one-on-one consultation is key, says Pinkney, and the best opportunity to evaluate their work, personality and demeanor, all the while peppering him or her with your important questions.
What to ask:
o "How did you get involved in photography and how long have you been doing weddings?" Allowing them to share their story and passion builds a rapport and gives you insight into their background and experiences.
o "What style would you consider yourself and how do you believe a wedding should be photographed?" There is no right answer, just make sure you agree with theirs.
o "How many weddings will you be working the weekend of mine?" You want 100% of their energy and focus.
o "What type of equipment do you have?" Backup cameras, lenses, and batteries for emergencies are a must.
o "Will there be two photographers on my day? If so, is it someone you have worked with before?"
o "What does your pricing include and can I customize my own package?" Creating your own package is the best way to ensure you get exactly what you want.
And finally, Pinkney says, "Ask, ask and ask again, until you are confident you understand their answers." And, she adds, "My favorite part about wedding photography is the emotion that goes into the day. I believe that if you look at a photographer’s work and feel that emotional connection, that’s when you’ve chosen the right one for you."
